In a controversy that would top “Spygate” in the creativity department, the NFL is investigating whether the New England Patriots purposely used deflated footballs during their AFC Championship win over the Indianapolis Colts.
Columnist Bob Kravitz broke the news early in the morning. He tweeted:
I’m told at one point the officials took a ball out of play and weighed it. Should hear more tomorrow on this subject.

Just heard from an nfl spokesman the league is in fact investigating the matter.

As Yahoo! Sports’ Eric Edholm notes, the NFL mandates the ball weigh between 14 and 15 ounces and must have a certain amount of air pressure.
If the Patriots are found to have gone against those rules, they might be penalized via the draft.
Told if a league investigation confirms deflated footballs it will result in lost draft picks. Stay tuned.

The Patriots blasted the Colts 45-7 to reach their sixth Super Bowl in 14 years.
