A Crooning Toilet Is Going To Raise Your Standards For What It Means To Be A Potty Mouth

You probably don’t think of your toilet as a life-saving friend, but it is, friend. I’m not even being dramatic! But if you do have a flair for dramatics, then let my buddy the toilet take it away…

Daughters Are Pledging Their Virginity To Their Fathers Like It's No Big Deal

As someone who is not American, I first heard about “purity balls” (eesh, that name) for the first time in 2014. It shocked me that fathers and daughters attend these dances to pledge her “purity” and virginity until she is married, giving her little choice or education on, you know, the importance of her own personal choices.

Then I saw this trailer for the documentary “Daddy I Do,” which highlights the bigger issue: the serious lack of sexual education in America. Watch filmmaker Cassie Jaye explore the issue in the video below.

It's Time To Talk About The Illness Claiming Brilliant Human Beings Like Robin Williams

Tragic. Devastating. Absolutely heartbreaking. There is nothing I can tell you that will do justice to the lifetime of light and laughter Robin Williams brought to so many of us. I can just share sadness with the world at such an unexpected loss and help shed some light on something many of us aren’t comfortable talking about: depression. Depression is a serious medical illness. It’s not a passing bad mood or temporary sadness. It can be debilitating, and it happens to so many people. If you’re struggling with depression, please know there is no shame in reaching out for help in managing a legitimate illness.

Below are two videos. The first is an eight-minute clip from an interview with Robin Williams in 2010. The subject he discussed was suicide. It seems that one tactic he relied on was trying to compartmentalize suicidal thoughts and put them in a category where they were unspeakable. Unfortunately, for many people that tactic will only work for so long.

The second clip is the news about Robin’s death, as well as a retrospective of his career and photographs of him.

Why Some Doctors Are Freaking Out Over A Popular Pastime We Assume Is Good For Us

Chris Nowinski is a Harvard grad turned pro-athlete who has been raising awareness of the global concussion crisis within the sports industry and its link to brain trauma. Of course adults and kids shouldn’t stop playing sports, but it’s important to understand the risks of certain types of sports before you sign yourself or your kids up.

MAP: What's One Thing That Almost Everywhere Else In The World Does Better Than America?

I have a fantastic present for whoever came up with the brilliant idea of punishing sick employees. Sorry … did I say “brilliant”? I meant outrageous. And, oops, did I say “present”? I meant “swift kick to the face.”

Check out this map to see how America stacks up against the rest of the world in providing paid sick leave for employees. The blue countries offer guaranteed paid sick leave. The red countries do not.

Then click the links below the map to show your support for paid employee sick leave by signing the NYC Campaign for Paid Sick Days’ petition to city hall.

Hugh Jackman Gives Us A Much-Needed History Lesson And A Wake-Up Call

In just over a minute, Hugh Jackman will make you laugh — and then think — about some of the assumptions we make with regard to disease.

Even though the concert he mentions is long past, the fight to end this threat to kids wages on.

When Both Sides Of The Marijuana Debate Use Actual Facts, Things Get Very Interesting

Seconds before potheads all around the U.S. exhale a mixture of smoke and I-told-you-so, CNN’s go-to doctor revealed that after doing some actual research, he is taking back all those negative things he said about medical marijuana. Skip to 2:03 to see an example of the evidence Gupta encountered that made him start supporting the marijuana plant. The debate that takes place in the second half of the video is able to cover much more ground when the both sides agrees to the basic premises at 4:19 and 4:39. It’s actually the best argument for and against pot that I’ve heard in a long time.

Everyone Poops, But 2.6 Billion People Do It In A Really Crappy Way

I know it’s synonymous with crap, but your toilet can do so much more! Can you imagine all that water and all those pipes and septic tanks turning our business into fertilizer? Or fuel? Or even clean drinking water? When it comes to doo-doo, there’s little our toilets can’t do if we think outside the pot.

Harry Reid: If you want to strengthen Social Security, support immigration reform [Vine video]

http://twitter.com/#!/SenatorReid/status/337213990335836160

Coming from the same man who said passing Obamacare would strengthen the health care system but is now agreeing with Max Baucus that it could be a train wreck, it might be wise to remain highly skeptical of Harry’s guarantees. The “immigration reform will strengthen Social Security” argument contains the same short-term-only accounting techniques and labor force assumptions that were used to “prove” Obamacare would save money and create jobs.

Flashback: Even those who are for immigration reform have compared the Gang of Eight bill to Obamacare. Be afraid:

These 3 Words Can Be The Most Gut-Wrenching Thing Doctors Ever Hear. Here's Why.

The thought of doctors screwing up is terrifying. I’m not here to deny that fact. But if a doctor makes a mistake, should they be shamed into silence, or should the culture of medicine be open enough that others can learn from that mistake and overall care can improve?

Want to hear those three bone-chilling words? He first says ‘em at 7:29.
