Scientists Think Mars Looks Like Earth
Scientists think the spot on the Martian equator where the Curiosity rover landed looks familiar, comparing the landscape to California’s Mojave Desert.
“The first impression that you get is how Earth-like this seems looking at that landscape,” chief scientist John Grotzinger of the California Institute of Technology said.
Google Doodle Lets You Canoe Race
Though all the Olympic medals have already been awarded in slalom canoe, Google’s still giving you a shot to test your paddling chops.
Thursday’s whimsical illustration lets you race down a river, navigating turns with the left and right arrow keys. You’ll face challenges during the course, including the river’s bends, rocks and poles.
Pinterest announced Wednesday that it began open registration, dropping its invite-only approach.
Users can now sign up for the social photo sharing website without waiting for an invitation, according to Pinterest’s official blog. Prospective pinners can register using their email addresses, or log in with their Facebook or Twitter accounts.
Android Was in 68.1% of Smartphones Shipped in Q2
The race between iOS and Android is beginning to look like a blowout: A new report from IDC pegs market share for the latter at 68.1% for all new smartphones shipped in the second quarter.
Overall, the two platforms accounted for 85% of the smartphone market during Q2. BlackBerry and Symbian hit 4.8% and 4.4%, respectively.

Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.) had one of the most unfortunate Twitter and Pinterest hacks in recent memory, where pictures of young women in bikini’s (and in some cases lingerie) encouraging weight loss flooded his social media accounts.
Most of the tweets and Pinterest posts were deleted, but that didn’t stop us from catching the trend… yikes.
