McDonald's Has An Entire Menu Of Life Advice For Its Workers — It's About As Wholesome As The Food

McDonald’s has launched an entire website that’s full of life advice for their workers. It includes tasty McNuggets like “Take at least two vacations a year.” You work hard for that $7.25 an hour. Treat yourself! They also recommend “singing away stress.” Give it a shot: When bill collectors call, try paying them with a little ditty. Who needs a living wage when you’re working for a thoughtful and caring employer like McDonald’s?

4 College Kids Decided To Try Living Like 1.1 Billion People Do Every Day

What do you think it would be like living on $1 a day? There’s a fascinating documentary about that, and it reveals so much about parts of our world we are usually unaware of. I feel like simplifying my life sometimes, but have never even considered doing it to this level.

Bill Maher’s New Rules: The New Trend Of People Who Have All The Power Acting As The Oppressed Ones

There’s so much talk about income inequality these days that the wealthiest in our country are starting to get a bit uncomfortable about the tone of the conversation. I think we need to ratchet it up about 20 notches myself. Pitchforks and torches, indeed!

Sexual Harassment, Exposure To Harmful Chemicals, Low Pay. Its All In A Day's Work Here.

I love the old ’70s movie “Car Wash.” Its theme song said, “You might not ever get rich, but it’s better than digging a ditch.” But that’s not so true now. In fact, what’s happening is pretty horrible. See these folks take great risk to tell you how they were treated.

The Sun Has A Bright Idea For A Bunch Of People Who Are Stuck In The Dark

Ever have someone tell you that they work better at night than they do during the day? Or maybe you’ve crammed for a test (or most of them) into the wee hours of the morning? It’s pretty great that that’s an option, but it’s also easy to forget that it’s not for more than a billion people out there. They’re missing one major thing.

Here's A Scary Clip Illustrating How Amazingly Smart Orcas Are And How Utterly Ruthless SeaWorld Was

By now, we’ve all at least heard whispers that SeaWorld has some very nasty practices. But have you heard the story of how it all got started? It’s a pretty horrifying tale. Even the guy shown below (who was there) regrets it now.

FACT CHECK TIME! Here’s what our fact checkers found:

  • Yep, nets, explosives, and aircraft have indeed been used to capture whales for SeaWorld.

  • Sadly, several whales died during the 1970 capture shown in the clip above.

  • Washington state waters were not closed to whale captures until 1976.

  • SeaWorld’s preemptive letter sent out to “Blackfish” movie critics doesn’t dispute that this particular clip is legit.

A Word From The People Who Are About To Be Thrown Off The Fiscal Cliff

The so-called fiscal cliff is actually a fiscal bluff — a made-up crisis to make us think our government is out of money and time. Congress continues to drag its feet over raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans, despite the top 1% earning 23% of the nation’s income, and insists on calling for cuts to vital programs instead of reining in massive subsidies ($100 billion in 2011 alone) to major corporations that already make billions in profits. America isn’t broke — it’s being robbed.

Dec. 19, 2012 is ARTSTRIKE — a day of action to share powerful art and music that can convince our friends that more cuts and tax breaks aren’t the answer. Artists from across the country have come together to make their voices heard. It couldn’t come at a more urgent time, as Washington, D.C. nears a deal that would slash Social Security and raises taxes on the poor and middle class. Check out a few of my favorites below, and help me share them far and wide.
