Lumbreras was born on 31 August 1887 in a small Mexican village. She has survived two World Wars, the Mexican Revolution, and is now unofficially the oldest person to have ever lived. She has reportedly lost or had her birth certificate “destroyed”, making 116-year-old Misao Okawa the officially recognised oldest person.

Despite Lumbreras’ family’s claims they’ve had her age verified by judges during an investigation by the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, the Guinness Book of World Records still does not recognise her as the world’s oldest person.

2. According to the New York Post, she was also something of a badass. She was a member of the “Adelitas”, a group of women who fought in the Mexican Revolution.

Lumbreras’s 43-year-old granddaughter Miriam Alvear told the Mexican El Horizonte newspaper: “She is entirely lucid. She blows your mind with her stories from the revolution. She was always a woman who fought.”

3. Lumbreras’ family has said that she enjoys eating chocolate, beans, tortillas, as well as sleeping for up to three days at a time.
