It’s TOTALLY Raining Teens…Eleven Years Later

The July 2014 issue of Vanity Fair features the up-and-already here Shailene Woodley, but in honor of #tbt, let’s remember the July 2003 Vanity Fair issue featuring “20 Pages of the Hottest Teen and Tween Stars” and catch up with them!

In 2003, Bynes was starring as the gregarious Daphne in What a Girl Wants. When asked, she noted that she owned 8 Juicy Couture outfits, her celeb crush was Orlando Bloom, and her catchphrase was, “no prob.”

After having a rather public break down via twitter, Bynes entered rehab, but as of today, she has exited rehab and completed two quarters at the Orange Country Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. A source told E! News that she is loving school and, “If she was offered an acting job any time soon she may not take it because she’s so focused on school.”

2. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen 2003

In 2003, MK&A had just released their newest movie The Challenge. While they both agreed Britney was better than Christina, Ashley states that her biggest pet peeve is finding hair in her food, while Mary-Kate’s is, “When people eat bananas and make that noise.”

Having retired from their acting careers, attending NYU for a year, and beginning a budding fashion empire, most recently the Olsen twins have released two new fragrances to compliment their Elizabeth and James brand. You rarely see them in the news anymore, but they did recently endorse their fragrances during an appearance on the Ellen Show.

3. Mandy Moore 2003

In 2003, Moore had just starred in How to Deal, but even at the time she was best known for her role as Jamie Sullivan in the Nicholas Sparks movie adaptation of A Walk to Remember. Moore told the mag that her first job was singing the national anthem at sporting events beginning at age 11 and her idol would have to be Bette Midler.

Moore is now best known as voicing the Disney princess, Rapunzel, in Tangled. Most recently, she voices the title character in the TV show, Sheriff Callie’s Wild West, which you shouldn’t be surprised if you’ve never heard of because it is a, “kids’ western centered on a kitty-cat sheriff whose job is to ensure that the town of Nice and Friendly Corners remains the friendliest town in the West” (imdb.com).

4. Hilary Duff 2003

In 2003, Duff was on fire! In that year alone, she starred in Agent Cody Banks, Cheaper by the Dozen, and none other than her reprisal role in The Lizzie McGuire Movie! Coincidentally, her favorite “guy’s guy,” David Beckham, was also who she considered her favorite “pretty boy.” That in addition to the fact that her idol was Princess Diana, I definitely have to question Hilary’s patriotism.

After recently celebrating the one year mark of her son’s birth, Duff is starring in the new TV show, Younger, as well as voicing Wendy in Wings: Sky Force Heroes, but has been most recently brought back into conversation because of her return to music with her new music video for her single, “Chasing the Sun” which again has me asking my boss, “why can’t I bring my hamster to work?”

5. Alexis Bledel 2003

In 2003, Bledel was best known for her on-going role as Rory Gilmore in Gilmore GIrls, but had also recently moved onto the big screen in the film Tuck Everlasting, which you all probably forgot you forgot about. A simple girl, she admits she owns no Juicy Couture outfits and the illusion of celebrities, “is completely gone,” so she does not have a celeb crush, but she does love Ewan McGregor and Jared Leto.

Even after starring in both Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movies, Bledel is still best known for her role in Gilmore Girls, and has filmed a few other movies that I’ve never heard of and had a reoccuring guest role on Mad Men where she met her now fiancé, Vincent Kartheiser. In other news, I just found out that Alexis is her middle name and her first name is actually Kimberly. So, that’s cool!

6. Evan Rachel Wood 2003

In 2003, Wood was working on her breakout film, Thirteen, but I’ll always remember her as the violin player who had a crush on Simon from 7th Heaven in Little Secrets back in 2001. Being the rebel that she was, when given the choice of Britney or Christina, she chose Alanis [Morissette] and her favorite old TV show was Daria.

Most recently, she starred in the film, Barefoot, but is better known for her role as the 500 year old vampire queen of Louisiana in True Blood. She is currently filming and in pre-production for three new movies to come out in 2015. She was in a relationship with Marilyn Manson for three years, which included an engagement, before marrying her ex, Jamie Bell, giving birth to a son in July 2013, and then separated from Bell after 19 months of marriage.

7. Raven

In 2003, Raven had just starred as the cheetalicious diva, Galleria, in Disney’s The Cheetah Girls and had begun her adventure as the title character in That’s So Raven. Raven admitted that her favorite type of car was a Mercedes-Benz ML55 S.U.V. and her catchphrase was, “this is a serious situation,” which surprised me. I assumed it was, “OH! SNAP!”

After trying to shake her image as “That’s So” Raven and starring in the ABC Family sitcom, State of Georgia, she is most notable as the voice of Iridessa in the Pixie Hollow series. Many rumors have gone around regarding her sexual orientation, to which Symoné wrote on Twitter in May 2012: “My sexual orientation is mine, and the person I’m dating’s to know. I’m not one for a public display of my life.” In August 2013, Raven-Symoné commented on legalizing same-sex marriage, “I was excited to hear today that more states legalized gay marriage. I, however am not currently getting married, but it is great to know I can now, should I wish to”.

8. Lindsay Lohan

In 2003, before Lohan was known as a mean girl, she played Jamie Lee Curtis’ daughter in the remake of the classic film, Freaky Friday. She told Vanity Fair that her first job was a commercial for Jell-O with Bill Cosby (classic) and while she loves ChapStick, she hates people who are fake. Four for you LiLo! You go LiLo!

After a few run ins with the law as well as (allegedly) going under the knife, Lohan is doing much better this year. Creating an 8-part docuseries with the help of Oprah Winfrey and her new OWN Network, Lindsay aired strong and finished fine. She returned to the small screen (her debut being the Jell-O commercial) in an episode of 2 Broke Girls in which she played an indecisive bride. Lohan also has a few projects lined up for later this year and 2015.
