This year, holiday shopping can be as easy as scrolling through an app and clicking “Gift It.” The best part: You won’t have to worry about shipping.
Sesame is a gift-giving app [iTunes link] launched this week by Sincerely — the makers of Postagram.
The gift sets are curated by industry experts. Lick My Spoon blogger Stephanie Hua filled the “Snack Attack” box with delectable Fuckychunky Chip-Zel-Pop, chocolate toffee and brownies, plus black truffle and white cheddar popcorn.
“Sesame makes it easy enough, within three clicks, to send a gift,” said Matt Brezina, Sincerely cofounder.
There are 13 gift sets available for $29 or $49 apiece. In the future, there will be about 20 to 30 packages to choose from each month. The packages are designed for a range of people in your life. In one shot, you can send your nieces and nephews the “Snow Day” set (containing a can of hot chocolate, a snow ball maker and inflatable snow tube) and your sister a mixology set called the “Cocktail Hour.”
Even tiny tots and furry pets can get in on the fun. The “Bedtime Ritual” package comes with a Goodnight Moon hardcover, portable night light and cozy stuffed bunny. “Baby Steps,” which comes with a teething ring, “blankie” and receiving blanket, is perfect for new parents. Know a dog lover? Send them the “Puppy Picks” box with training book, chew toys, board bag dispenser and natural dog treats. Each curated set arrives in a beautiful blue box, containing a personalized card and enjoyment guide explaining what the items are.
The app creator believes Sesame stands out from the competition by providing the ingredients for an experience. “It’s all about everyday experiences that we can help create and help the sender be a part of that even when they can’t be there in person,” Brezina said.
Mobile apps such as Sesame make on-a-whim gifts easy to send. An equally simple-to-use app called Treater lets users send Facebook friends a beer, cupcake, smoothie or spa treatment.
Sincerely also sees a competitor in Facebook Gifts, re-launched by the social network, that has added a slew of vendor partners including babyGAP, Fab, Brookstone, Lindt, Proflowers and Apple iTunes. Sincerely believes Sesame’s curated boxes will appeal more to gifters looking to provide an experience rather than just a product.
