Artist Creates A Sculpture Of The Madonna That Smells Like Vagina (Video)

Peter De Cupere is known as an olfactory artist because his projects produce certain smells from symbolic images.

His newest creation is a statue of the Madonna that emits the scent of female genitalia.

Called The Deflowering, the biblical figure is made out of “frozen holy water,” according to the Huffington Post.

Inside the statue is a conserved scent of vagina, obtained from a lab in Germany.

When the holy water melts, the scent fills the air and becomes embedded in a puddle of the liquid.

The entire statue will melt in about two hours, but observers can dip their fingers into the holy water and take the smell with them wherever they go afterward.

De Cupere told HuffPost,

Religion has always been an interesting issue in art. The reason is simple, because it’s conservative, an old and closed idea and art is the opposite, it’s progressive and open — like a vagina.

A woman’s vagina smells, in general, great and more men should respect that.

The artist also aims to put an end to religion’s censorship of female sexuality.

As for the scent, it’s 100 percent organic and contains smells from vaginas all over the world.

De Cupere said,

I wanted to be sure that it’s a mix of different women and that they are from different origins. The scent is not synthetic. It’s the real vaginal scent distilled in special ways. How they do it is the secret of the labs.

The performance is making its debut on Thursday in Belgium.

Here’s a video of the experience, accompanied by some oddly creepy music:
