Marco Rubio Will Not Appear On Bryan Fischer"s Show Tomorrow

Florida Senator Marco Rubio will appear on conservative American Family Association radio host Bryan Fischer’s show tomorrow.

Fischer, known for his controversial anti-gay rhetoric, tweeted that the two would talk about Rubio’s book, released Tuesday, and immigration.

Mitt Romney, who said this afternoon that his campaign was “thoroughly” vetting Rubio after a day of speculation that they were not, has never appeared on Fischer’s show although nearly every other Republican presidential candidate did. At the Values Voter Summit last year, Romney condemned fellow speaker Fischer’s views during his speech, saying “We should remember that decency and civility are values too” and adding, “one of the speakers who will follow me today has crossed that line I think.”

And Fischer grew to be more of a thorn in Romney’s side this past spring, when his criticism of gay foreign policy spokesman Richard Grenell eventually led to his leaving the campaign.

Rubio’s spokesman didn’t immediately return a request for comment.

UPDATE 7:15 p.m.: Rubio has postponed the appearance, Fischer tweets:

UPDATE 8:00 p.m.: Rubio will not appear on Fischer’s show, his spokesman, Alex Conant, said.

Update 6/20: Fischer said that his program didn’t reach out to Rubio to come on the show.

“He asked to come on my program, not the other way round,” Fischer told BuzzFeed.

“I can confirm that we were contacted, at the publicist’s initiative, last Wednesday, June 13,” Fischer said. They then received a confirmation on June 19, he said.

“Then at 5:20 PM yesterday we received an email marked ‘urgent’ with the message that the interview would need to be postponed due to ‘urgent Senate business,’” Fischer said.

Neither Rubio’s book publicist nor his spokesman returned a request for comment.
