The Ten Commandments Of The Cafeteria

The Ten Commandments Of The Cafeteria

Bryan Starr visited his alma mater, the Kentucky Christian University, and teamed up with the Food Service General Manager to make this humorous video about the cafeteria. As they go to a religious school, they cover the Ten Commandments of the cafeteria that most people can appreciate. Just because you’re eating in a cafeteria doesn’t mean you can make a mess and break all the rules of common decency. Their video has gone viral with over half a million views!

UCLA Professor Pawns Christian Missionary On College Campus

NSFW – language

Religious missionaries spreading the gospel on college campuses is nothing new, so this UCLA professor was fully prepared to take on this Evangelical who dared confront him. The religious man tried to embarrass the professor and taunted him saying, “And you’re such a smart college professor who denies logic, because he doesn’t believe in God…”

The freshman chemistry professor quickly countered with, “Deny logic? When did I deny logic? I teach logic motherf***er!” He then ended the ‘debate’ by calmly taking the religious man’s briefcase of papers and walking off.

The video is from last October, but just had a viral eruption now, being viewed 30,000 times in just the past day.

76% of Colleges Struggle to Meet Bandwidth Demands

76-of-colleges-struggle-to-meet-bandwidth-demands-bb6ec2f671

At the start of the semester, students haul more than books, clothes and furniture to campus. They bring a slew of bandwidth-sucking devices with them.

The largest bandwidth-consuming devices used by students include tablets, smartphones, iPods, gaming consoles and e-readers. On campus, about 41% of students will have three or more devices connected to the Internet at one time. That’s a problem for the 76.4% of institutions looking to reinforce their networks to support more devices.

As college-aged students rely on an expanded arsenal of web-connected gadgets, schools face an unprecedented growth of network bandwidth consumption. Will campuses be ready for incoming data-hungry residents?

This infographic created by Online Colleges outlines the current scope of coverage and bandwidth availability on campuses.

Elon University Seniors Recreate ‘Friends’ Intro Shot-For-Shot

Ahh, the iconic Friends introduction. Even kids who are graduating college today recognize the popular 90′s sitcom.

As a great way to celebrate graduation, a few ‘friends’ from Elon University decided to recreate the famous introduction to digitally seal their friendship forever.

The students did such a great job, Allee Willis, the author of the song I’ll Be There For You, even contacted David Gwynn to let him know that a great job he and his buddies did on the recreation.

“I wrote I’ll Be There For You. Excellent job!” he posted on the YouTube video.

Now, the video has gone viral, garnering over 125,000 hits, and appearing on LaughingSquid, CollegeHumor, and BlameItOnTheVoices

Parkour Robot

Human parkour is soo 2005.

Thankfully, the University of Pennsylvani has been hard at work to create a true ‘parkour robot,’ called RHex.

Of course, the ‘bot was not made just to be featured in a viral video, but that didn’t stop the school from ‘teaching’ the new hi-tech dog-like robot tricks reminiscent of the extreme sport to impress the camera.

In this new video, RHex performs a slew of impressive jumps, flips, and other impressive maneuvers and is quickly going viral.

Chinese HS Students Get IV Drips While Cramming for Exams

Students in a Chinese high school were given intravenous drips to help them in studying for their exams, reports ITN.

Photos posted on a Chinese microblogging website Sina Weibo show students at Xiaogan No.1 High School in Hubei province hooked up to IV drips of amino acids while cramming for the Gaokao, a national college entrance exam that may determine their entire future.

Apparently, the Chinese government is giving a 10-yuan amino acid subsidy to each student who takes this year’s Gaokao, and for the sake of convenience, the school decided to arrange IV drip sessions right in the classroom.

Of course, the whole thing raised quite a stir in China.

The Real World: 13 Common Conflicting Thoughts Post-Grads Have

largelarge

Our 20s: They’re a crazy time, when many of us experience life-changing moments known as “milestones.”

We finally get our first real jobs after all those unpaid internships. We graduate from college, move out of our parents’ homes and start paying for our own car insurance. Just throwing this out there, we might even get married.

Our 20s are the dawn of our primes. The world opens up to us in ways it didn’t before; new opportunities arise that are only available to those who have surpassed the legal drinking age.

It’s an exciting and hectic time in our lives. Exciting because things are changing (hopefully, for the better), and hectic because it seems like it’s all happening at once.

But, let’s be honest: Our 20s can also be very overwhelming because society tells us to find our place in the world, love it, thrive in it and, by the way, also be knowledgeable citizens, pay our rent, do our taxes, etc.

All of this 20s turmoil can leave us feeling lost at times. As we try to figure out our place in the world (and how the hell to pay taxes), we encounter a few of the following conflicting thoughts:

1. I want to move out, but I don’t want to pay rent.

Rent: It’s the reason many of us have jobs. It’s also what makes it so hard to leave that cozy place at Mom and Pop’s, where you have a warm bed and home-cooked meals provided for you, all free of charge. But, as nice as that can be, it gets old.

As you grow up, you may notice the mounting urge to spread your wings and flee the coop. At some point in time, we all have to accept the concept of “rent” and pay the price for our freedom.

Trust me, your mom is getting tired of doing your laundry, anyway.

2. I want to eat, but I don’t want to cook.

Immediately after graduating, moving out and becoming “adults,” many post-grads find themselves staring at ovens, wondering, “But, isn’t this what the microwave is for?” This is when you become very familiar with the frozen food aisle; you can get everything there.

But, a frozen food diet isn’t satisfying for a long period of time. Eventually, you have to learn how to cook (even if not that well). And, no, grilled cheese doesn’t count.

3. I want to have a steady job, but I also want to be spontaneous.

After college, plans gradually become less and less spontaneous. Friends move; people get jobs, and it can be harder to get the gang all together on a whim.

You may find yourself having to put extra effort into planning events beforehand.

While you may yearn for some of the spontaneity from your college glory days, you will also appreciate the consistency of a stable job and dependable schedule.

4. I want to focus on my career, but I want to travel the world.

For a brief time after college, many of us found ourselves in a temporary limbo with no real commitments.

This is the perfect time to pursue our dreams, but sometimes, those dreams may conflict. You may want to go straight to med school, or you may want to take a year off to travel the world.

Just remember that no matter what, if you’re doing what you love, your time is not being wasted. Take risks and go on adventures now; there will be time later to settle down.

5. I want to do something I love, but I also want to be rich.

Unfortunately, these two ideals don’t always go hand-in-hand. That’s why it is important to remember which one is more important. It sounds cliché, but it’s true. Doing what you love will give you a deeper satisfaction than money could ever buy.

Be creative; there are usually ways to make money doing something you love, even if it means working hard and maybe being a little unconventional. Just look at Nash Grier, who built a fortune by making comedic Vines.

6. I miss college, but I don’t miss college.

There will be times when you will miss living in a house full of your friends, and there will be times when you’ll feel relieved you don’t see certain people anymore. There will be times when you’ll miss grimy frat houses and times when you’ll be horrified you ever stepped foot in them.

There will be times when you’ll reminisce about the coffee binges with your best friends during finals week and times when you’ll feel glad you never have to take another final again. There are so many pros and cons to graduating that the list goes on and on.

The truth is your life will never be the same as it was in college, but that doesn’t mean it has to be worse. Eventually, you will find joy in new things and look back fondly on the years you spent at that place called college.

7. I want nice things, but I have no money.

I once assumed that immediately after I graduated, I would start dressing like Olivia Pope and shopping exclusively at J. Crew. I would drink Grey Goose, buy a new radio for my car and a Kate Spade bag while I was at it (not from the outlet).

However, I currently do most of my shopping at Marshalls, drink vodka that costs $20 per handle, and still have a broken car radio that can ruin even the best song. I’m not exactly sure where I thought this money would come from, but I’m still looking for it.

Right after college is a strange time, when you’re ready to move on to bigger and better things, but you don’t exactly have the resources to do so. In college, my definition of personal budgeting was skipping the guacamole at Chipotle.

Since then, I’ve learned what an important skill financial management is and that patience and hard work are virtues during this transitional phase. Money won’t just land in your lap; you have to go out there and earn it (and save it, too).

8. I want a dog, but I can’t even take care of a plant.

Cool, you just graduated from college and moved out into your own place, so you think you’re ready for some responsibility. How about a dog? Bitches love dogs.

Before you go jumping to conclusions, consider how much responsibility you’re ready to take on. I knew I wasn’t ready for a dog when my mom gave me a rose plant for my window, which quickly withered up and died when I forgot to water it for two weeks.

As a post-grad, you may feel ready to take on the world, but do so in baby steps; don’t try to bite off more than you can chew just because you’re super excited to be independent and responsible.

9. I could go out, but I could also stay in.

In college, the excuses to stay in were few and far between. In the real world, you begin to appreciate the beauty of Netflix and pajamas after a long day at the office.

Your tolerance might slip a little and your hangovers might suddenly start hitting you like a bus. But, that doesn’t mean you don’t know how to have fun. You will live for happy hours and your weekends will blossom into a wonderful land of opportunity.

Finding a healthy balance between relaxing and going out will be essential after graduation.

10. I should buy more business casual clothes, but I’m going to buy yoga pants, instead.

One of the biggest changes after college is one that often gets overlooked: phasing out your college wardrobe. It is no longer acceptable to throw on leggings, a cut-up sweatshirt and Uggs and call it an outfit. The adult world demands more from us.

When I graduated, I found myself wandering aimlessly through The Limited and Banana Republic, looking for business casual clothing. But, later on, feeling lost and confused, I ended up in Forever 21 and saw a cute crop top I just had to have. “This will be my weekend shirt,” I reassured myself mentally.

It’s okay to hang on to your college clothes, but you should be prepared to vamp up your professional attire, as well.

11. I want to be independent, but not completely alone.

You want to move out, but you still want to call your mom whenever you have a problem. You want to handle your own sh*t, until you get in too deep and need to ask for help.

Twenty-somethings often get caught in the struggle of discovering what real independence means. Yes, it means being able to take care of yourself and handle problems on your own, but it also means knowing when and how to maturely ask for assistance.

If you need help, remember you don’t have to do everything by yourself; call up a friend or relative when you’re in need.

12. I want to be in a relationship, but I don’t want to be in a relationship.

Sometimes, it can be hard to lay in bed alone, cuddling with your body pillow, especially if all of your other friends are in committed relationships. Then again, it can also be nice to be a free bird, who need not worry about relationship drama.

Whatever your situation is, your 20s are a time to find yourself, as well as figure out exactly what you want from a relationship. You can do this with or without someone else.

But, always remember that the most important relationship is the one you have with yourself, and if you haven’t met that someone who makes you want to commit yet, it’s okay. Your time will come.

In the meantime, enjoy getting to know yourself and doing things that make you happy.

13. I want to grow up, but I don’t want to grow up.

When it comes to growing up, you’ll probably go through stages of denial, a little depression and finally, acceptance. Oh, how the pressures of the adult world make us yearn for the innocence of childhood and the noncommittal nonsense of college.

But, then again, gaining experiences, harvesting knowledge, earning respect and growing mentally, emotionally and spiritually are all extremely gratifying, as well. Whether we like it or not, we will all grow up. But, that doesn’t mean we have to forget how to play like children or have fun like college kids.

We may not be as carefree as we were before, but we can make our cares our strengths instead of our weaknesses.

If you’re ever looking for a little inspiration on growing up, just remember Dr. Seuss’s wise words:

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.

You’re on your own. And, you know what you know. And, YOU are the one who will decide where to go. You’ll get mixed up, of course, as you already know. You’ll get mixed up with many strange birds as you go.

So be sure when you step. Step with care and great tact and remember that Life’s a Great Balancing Act…

Oh the places you’ll go! There is fun to be done! There are points to be scored. There are games to be won. And the magical things you can do with that ball will make you the winning-est winner of all.

10 Things Freshman Betches Should Know

For the betches of the Class of 2018, get ready to be the envy of every frat guy and SWUB (Senior Washed Up Betch). You’re like the new shiny toy all the frat boys want to play with. Like if college was an MTV Challenge you all are the fresh meat. Anyway enough analogies, in addition to sweaty frat makeout sessions (more on those later), your freshman year is also characterized by many, many mistakes. Take our advice and maybe you’ll avoid the Freshman 15 Minutes of Shame.

1. People can see you when you’re “dancing” with your groin attached to some frat bro’s and your lips are suctioned together. Although it seems obvious, when you’re wasted in the middle of the dance floor with the frat star of your dreams, it’s easy to forget that people are watching, and might be judging. JSYK.

2. Don’t drink the Everclear. Seriously. 10/10 times in my life I have blacked out, thrown up, and lost my ability to walk, Everclear has been the culprit. Trust me when I say nothing good will ever come from drinking Everclear.

3. Just because something is unlimited doesn’t mean you should consume it in limitless amounts – the dining hall is not your friend. Whether it’s pizza, Diet Coke, or even hummus, eating unlimited quantities of anything except air is going to make you put on 15 pounds.

4. Find out where the library is, so you know to avoid it.

5. Also find out where the gym is, and don’t avoid it. (See above)

6. Get your fake before you go to school. Otherwise, good luck rolling up at the bar with the same fake Florida ID literally half the freshman class has.

7. You can never have too many tanks. Remember that.

8. You probably don’t need a printer. You just need a friend with a printer. Sure I used one in college, but when I wasn"t spending $6 million on ink cartridges it sat collecting dust and taking up valuable space. Which it continues to do since I"ve used it exactly 0 times since graduation.

9. Every other girl will be wearing a crop top and high-waisted shorts on her first day of orientation. Don’t be that bitch. Protip: Bros love sundresses.

10. Bring some ridiculous, costumey shit (like neon spandex) with you because you never know when the next theme party will be. Actually, you do know. It’s tomorrow. You’ve been warned.

This Pansexual Student Has Been Forced To Extreme Measures By Her Parents

This+Pansexual+Student+Has+Been+Forced+To+Extreme+Measures+By+Her+Parents

Kate Koenig is a 19-year-old student at the University of Pittsburgh. Kate self-identifies as pansexual, and her boyfriend is a transgender man.

Last Autumn, Kate’s parents found out by going through her mail that she was attracted to women and had been dating a transgender man, so they cut her off financially. Now, Kate is turning to the Internet to continue funding her college education: specifically, GoFundMe, where she’s started a campaign to help her stay at Pitt.

According to a YouTube video Kate posted  her parents found out she identified as pansexual by going through her mail and reading her blog. When she came home for a visit during first semester, her parents told her they had something to tell her: They knew she was pansexual and her boyfriend was trans.

“My family, including extended family, is extremely homophobic,” Kate wrote on her GoFundMe page. “After they found out, my parents cut me off financially and I am no longer living with them.” Although Kate’s parents agreed to cosign a loan on her behalf for the spring semester, “they are both unwilling and unable” to do it for the rest of her tuition.

Since then, Kate has been trying to raise money for her Pitt tuition on social media, starting a hashtag called #KeepKateInCollege. (She says she’s enrolled in a community college for the time being, and will start attending classes there in the fall). She launched her GoFundMe page last week, as a “last ditch effort” to keep her in school.

Kate says that while she’s already saved money from her summer job and has a $6500 school loan, she needs an additional $15,000 for tuition, food, rent, and to help cover her allergy and asthma medication.

“Going to Pitt is a dream of mine and I couldn’t bear the thought of not being able to stay there,” she writes on her GoFundMe page. “I am majoring in English and History and minoring in German with the hope of becoming a novelist. I will be immensly [sic] grateful if your contributions allow me to stay at Pitt. I’m praying every day for a miracle to help make this possible.”

The outlook is positive for Kate. Moved by her story, Kate’s supporters have been donating to her GoFundMe page and leaving inspirational messages in droves.   In one week, she’s raised $11,000 of her $15,000 intended target.

How Mitt Romney And Paul Ryan Got Distracted Today

WARREN, Ohio — Today, Mitt Romney was going to put questions about his stand on Medicare to rest. Paul Ryan was going to show he could talk about foreign policy with a jab at China.

Instead, Mitt Romney got annoyed. Paul Ryan bought a reporter a hot dog for his birthday and answered an off-message question. And so the campaign, yet again, lost control of its story, with Romney making news on his personal tax returns, and Ryan offering a complex defense of his views on Medicare. And questions about the wisdom of picking a policy visionary for a running mate and then rejecting the specifics of his detailed vision grew deeper.

Romney’s unlikely detour began when — in the midst of what is likely to be his last fundraising blitz without public events — he held a brief press conference at the Greer, S.C. airport. The objective, made obvious by the presence of a white board and dry erase marker, was to project a sort of wonky confidence on the issue that has dogged him since he announced his running mate: Medicare.

Republican presidential candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney speaks with the media after arriving at Spartanburg International Airport, Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, in Greer, S.C. Evan Vucci / AP

But while Romney scribbled his way through his talking points with relative ease, the optics were forgotten the moment a reporter asked him whether he had reviewed his tax returns to find out how much he’d paid, as he promised ABC News he would when he was in Israel. Apparently frustrated with the distraction from his Medicare message, Romney bristled at the question, calling it “small-minded” — and then spontaneously offered new details on his personal finances.

“I did got back and look at my taxes and over the past 10 years, I never paid less than 13 percent,” he said. “I think the most recent years is 13.6 percent or something like that. So I paid taxes every single year. Harry Reid’s charge is totally false. I’m sure waiting for Harry to put up who it was that told him what he says they told him. I don’t believe it for a minute, by the way.”

A campaign aide told BuzzFeed that Romney did not plan on talking about his tax returns today: “Gov. Romney was asked in Israel, he said he’d go back and look, which he did, and he was asked so gave his answer.”

With that answer, though, Romney catapulted questions about his tax returns back into the news cycle, and gave a prominent Democrat an opening to begin hammering away again at an attack line that had grown stale.

Within hours, Reid’s spokesman told reporters, “We’ll believe it when we see it. Until Mitt Romney releases his tax returns, Americans will continue to wonder what he’s hiding.” And an Obama campaign spokesperson blasted out a statement to the press titled, “Romney Needs to Prove His Tax Claims.”

Asked whether Romney’s revelation was a mistake Thursday afternoon, one weary Republican strategist admitted frustration, but tried to add perspective: “I’m not delighted, but the day is young, and I no longer think in terms of weekly message cycle. It’s only 2:00 pm EST, and by nightfall Biden could be talking more crazy.”

Ryan has never endured Romney’s prickly relations with the press, for reasons that Yahoo! reporter Chris Moody discovered today. It was Moody’s birthday, and when the nominee discovered that, he determined to buy him a hot dog. Moody tried to demur, but Ryan persisted:

One thing you should know about Paul Ryan: He worked as an Oscar Mayer salesman during college. He even drove the Wienermobile, once. The man knows how to push hot dogs.

“I’m a little embarrassed,” I said, feeling my pockets. “I left my wallet in the bus.”

“I gotcha, I gotcha,” he insisted. “It’s your birthday.”

Moody returned the favor by asking Ryan to explain why he had included $716 billion in cuts to planned Medicare spending in his famous budget plan, if he now opposes it. Ryan’s answer, couched in the process-heavy language of Capitol Hill, was that it wasn’t his fault the cuts had already been priced into the “baseline” and that while relying on them, he had also opposed them when they passed as part of ObamaCare.

Forget China: Medicare drove the day in Ohio.

While Ryan has provided a kind of spiritual revival to Romney and the conservative base with his hawkish commitment to fiscal conservative principles, he has yet to provide the substantive boost he promised. Instead, nearly very day since he joined the ticket, Ryan has been dogged by Medicare.

And the nominee has left the Romney campaign struggling to explain their theory of the campaign. A Romney aide explained to BuzzFeed that they believe Ryan’s presence on the ticket doesn’t take the focus off Obama.

“This is still a referendum on Obama and the Obama economy,” the aide said, when asked why Ryan and Romney haven’t laid out their plans for a host of policy issues. “We just need to remind voters about why this economy isn’t working, and that reason is Barack Obama.”
