Every Ship That Has Carried Humans Into Space Scaled Into One Chart

A new chart puts human spaceflight in perspective with every launch system, spacecraft, and space station combined into one image by Reddit user Heaney555.

As it turns out, the colossal Saturn V rocket nearly equals the International Space Station in height—which is about the length of a football field, or a 36-story-tall building. The Saturn V was used in the 1960’s and 1970s to support NASA’s Apollo program for human exploration to the moon. It is still the largest and most powerful US expendable launch vehicle ever built.

The chart is heavily inspired by firmada’s post but, according to Heaney555, fixes the inaccuracies. Check out the conversation on Reddit here. For an enlarged image, click on the image below.

CHART: Do You Pay A Higher Tax Rate Than Mitt Romney?

Since Mitt Romney has yet to fully disclose his effective federal tax rate, the best we have to go off of is this statement from 1/17/12: “It’s probably closer to the 15 percent rate than anything.” While it could easily be lower than that, it still provides a good way to put the absurdity of our current tax code into context. Two things to keep in mind while looking at the chart below:

1.) The Median net worth of an American family is $77,300.

2.) Mitt Romney’s net worth is estimated to be somewhere in the neighborhood of $200 million.

So, how does your tax rate stack up?

The Undeniable Problem With Guns In One Quick Chart

Shades of orange represent homicides, shades of blue represent suicides. It comes as no surprise that the weapon of choice in the vast majority of violent deaths is a gun. This is not something we can afford to ignore anymore, or explain away with a dismissive “a gun is just a tool, man!” In order for a gun to be a tool, it has to have a use other than killing. As far as I know, it doesn’t.

Oklahoma Hits The Top Of A Bad Chart To Be At The Top Of

Can we all agree that making abortions more restrictive doesn’t actually prevent abortions? Making something illegal just forces people to seek it out in seedier places. In the case of women who need abortions, restrictions make them more dangerous, more traumatic, or more expensive.

If you’re pretty sure that enough restrictions will effectively curb behavior, I’d encourage you to look into how the War on Drugs turned out.

The Real Thing To Look Out For This Election Cycle Has Nothing To Do With Candidates Or Parties

There has been plenty of debate about the consequences of unlimited money in elections. The debate is over now. There are a few outliers, no doubt, but it’s completely clear that what you need to win a congressional election is money — loads of money.
