Over the summer, Drake laid down a verse on “Tuesday” with iLoveMakonnen, the Atlanta-based hip-hop artist who carries the severed head of a cosmetology doll named Martha with him wherever he goes.
On the surface, it’s a fairly generic Drake song — he pretends to have it harder than he really does while talking about the club — but one listener (likely under the influence of some kind of drug) noticed something a bit unusual about the remix.
It turns out if you mash up the beginning of the first verse with “Escape (The Piña Colada Song),” you get a brand new song that shouldn’t work as well as it does.
I’m not saying Aubrey is the reincarnation of Rupert Holmes (mostly because Rupert Holmes is still alive), but something tells me he might have been an influence Drake’s never talked about in interviews.
