Jon Stewart Of America Meets The Jon Stewart Of Egypt, And Hilarity Ensues

Last summer, Jon Stewart stopped by the Egyptian TV show “Al Bernameg,” hosted by the brave and hilarious Bassem Youssef (dubbed by some “Egypt’s Jon Stewart”). Amidst the silliness, they end up having a pretty poignant discussion about the power of humor and satire in difficult situations from New York to Cairo and everywhere in between. Stick around ’til the end to see Stewart do something very American.

A Great Quote I’mma Keep In The Back Of My Mind For When I Feel Like Giving Up On Our Country

When the lights come on in a culture or even just a little village, often there is no way to turn them back off. It’s happened in nearly every corner of every country of the world, and sometimes, it has to happen over and over again until it sticks. Because yeah, there really is no going back.

There is a movie about Cesar Chavez and his life in theaters this year, and it’s something I have been looking forward to for a long time. History is my thang, y’all, especially labor history, and this looks to be amazing. More about that below the graphic, if you’re interested.

Bill Maher’s New Rules: The New Trend Of People Who Have All The Power Acting As The Oppressed Ones

There’s so much talk about income inequality these days that the wealthiest in our country are starting to get a bit uncomfortable about the tone of the conversation. I think we need to ratchet it up about 20 notches myself. Pitchforks and torches, indeed!

One Of The Wrongest Harry Potter-Related Anti-Abortion Signs You'll Ever See

When you reduce a major government decision with serious real world impacts to a flimsy argument about a couple of fictional characters, you better be prepared for those of us who’ve actually read the books to blow some holes in your fanciful theory.

1) If Lily Potter had gotten an abortion, Neville Longbottom would have killed Voldemort. The prophecy said so.

2) The whole mess might have been avoided if only Tom Riddle’s mother had access to a clean, safe, legal abortion in the first place.

Now please, go read the books. You might actually learn something.

There Are So Many Arguments For Gay Marriage. Here's The 1 We've All Been Missing.

So, um, perhaps Hall of Fame wrestler-turned-actor-turned-governor-turned-pundit Jesse Ventura has some … unconventional views to say the least. But this comedian thinks he might really be on to something about leaving people alone to do whatever the hell they want.

She’s Got Some Strong Words For Her 16-Year-Old Self, And They’re Hilarious and True

Anna Akana’s got some strong words for herself. Her 16-year-old self. She’s learned a lot since then, and only a time machine would make it possible for her to lay all this good truth on her younger self. Oh, well, she can just send this tough-love video.

1 Minute Of Brilliance On What It Really Meant To Drop The Bombs On Hiroshima And Nagasaki

One of the biggest reasons given for the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II was that it would end the war more quickly and save lives. Watch historian Howard Zinn tackle that in one minute.

Why Some Doctors Are Freaking Out Over A Popular Pastime We Assume Is Good For Us

Chris Nowinski is a Harvard grad turned pro-athlete who has been raising awareness of the global concussion crisis within the sports industry and its link to brain trauma. Of course adults and kids shouldn’t stop playing sports, but it’s important to understand the risks of certain types of sports before you sign yourself or your kids up.

Didn't Expect Such An Eloquent Discussion From A Comedian's Standup Routine

I never got to see George Carlin at a comedy club before he died. But honestly, I think his routine would be better served in a college classroom. That’s where conversations like this belong.

I Love Jennifer Aniston's Fantastically Feminist Response To The Boring Marriage And Babies Question

If Jennifer Aniston had a baby for every time the press reported on a “baby bump,” she’d have enough children to put on a 10-season re-creation of “Friends” that includes all 8.4 million Manhattanites who never show up on screen.

I Actually Never Knew This About Libraries. We Have A Chance To Change How They Get Books.

Libraries have limited resources and staffing to cull through anything but what the major publishers bring to them (let’s face it, it saves them time). But self-publishing and indie authors are starting to yield some significant hits, and helping libraries surface those is a huge service. I’m a big fan of this Kickstarter which creates a program to do just that with the flagship Santa Clara County Library system and hopefully every library in the U.S. after that.

The NFL May Get A Lot Of Things Wrong, But A Former Player Is Right In His Epic Rant On Parenting

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was deactivated indefinitely from his team after admitting to repeatedly hitting his 4-year-old son with a “switch” (a small, thin tree branch) and being indicted on child abuse charges as a result.

Former Minnesota Vikings player, NFL Hall of Famer, and current sports commentator Cris Carter had one of the clearest, rawest, and most personal reactions thus far.

L. Ron Hubbard's Great-Grandson Spills The Family Secrets On How Scientology Started. Eek.

Scientology has a history of silencing critics. If you want to know where that history comes from, look no further than the experiences of Jamie DeWolf, the great-grandson of L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology. Learn his family’s story. Then share it.

At 1:46, we learn about L. Ron’s dream to con everyone. At 3:40, we hear about the horrifying threats. At 5:42, the church takes the family secrets. At 7:00, I laugh.

If you want to see more of Jamie’s awesome work, you could Like him on Facebook and share this. Totally up to you though.

Ever Hear About The Lady Who Spilled Coffee On Herself At McDonald's, Then Sued For Millions?

It’s really unbelievable what happened to Stella Liebeck. You just have to watch to see how the media turned on this little old lady who lived in Albuquerque. Obviously a villain, right? And at 5:00, prepare to see what the coffee actually did to her. It’s not pretty. Well … nothing in her situation was.
